Behaviour

At Kingsway Infant School, we understand that all behaviour is a communication tool. Our therapeutic approach to behaviour supports children in learning how to behave positively and understand that their actions have an impact on themselves and others.

We use this approach to:

  • understand the world in which each child lives

  • help children recognise the impact of their behaviour

  • support the development of self-regulation, tolerance and respect

  • provide a safe, happy environment where all pupils can learn

  • ensure consistency across the school

Our Golden Rules underpin our behaviour policy and the culture of our school. They are:

  • be respectful

  • be kind

  • be honest

  • be proud

  • be helpful

Alongside teaching positive, pro-social behaviours, we use Zones of Regulation ( https://www.nhsborders.scot.nhs.uk/media/1001858/Zones-of-Regulation.pdf ) to help children recognise, name and understand their emotions. Through this approach, children learn strategies to manage their feelings and support both themselves and others when experiencing strong emotions. Children are encouraged to identify their feelings throughout the day and are supported in developing the skills needed for emotional regulation.

More information, including details about pro-social and anti-social behaviours, rewards and consequences, can be found in our behaviour policy on Policies Page.

We are committed to working in partnership with families to support every child to thrive.
