Phonics
At Kingsway Infant School, we know that phonics plays a key role in children becoming confident and successful readers. Phonics teaches children how letters and groups of letters represent sounds, helping them to decode and read words independently.

Through daily phonics lessons, children develop the skills they need to read, write, and spell with increasing confidence. As their knowledge grows, they become more fluent readers, allowing them to focus on understanding and enjoying what they read.

We follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme. Using the link below, you can find out how we teach phonics, how we pronounce pure sounds, and how we teach the spelling of tricky words:

Little Wandle Parent Resources
By working closely with parents and carers and encouraging reading at home, we help every child build strong foundations that support their learning across the whole curriculum.

We are extremely proud of our results from the Phonics Screening Test, which, for the last two years, have been higher than the average for Hertfordshire and England.
